Token Tax: Communication, AI, and the Bill We Cannot See.

A token is a conversational turn, a model’s unit of text, and a small spend of human attention. The tax is the hidden cost of producing, receiving, verifying, repairing, and carrying communication across a day. The book opens on a Stockholm communications manager who has worked nine hours and cannot say what she did. It shows how AI shifts communicative labor invisibly downstream: sometimes to the receiver, sometimes to the relationship.

Twelve chapters across three parts, about 68,000 words, built on a verification ledger of 78 sourced claims and a 103-entry bibliography. Every anecdote is tracked by provenance and consent. The front matter carries a full disclosure of how AI assisted the writing; the book practices its own argument.
